Do you like staying active? Do you enjoy physical activities such as a fun workout or dancing Zumba? Well, you’re in luck!
Each month the Sports & Wellness department will offer 4 group sessions at Chalon, and 3 group sessions at Doheny for students, faculty, and staff. Classes will be available based on the instructors’ availability, participant interest, and feedback. There will be “drop-in sessions” open to anyone and everyone at any skill level.
“We try to provide a variety of options from cardio, strength, and dance,” shared Autumn Johnson, director of Sports & Wellness. “Each session is led by a certified instructor who helps make the workout fun and engaging.”
These sessions do not require registration therefore, you can come as frequently as possible. The scheduled times also provide flexibility for commuters offering sessions at different times during the day. “It is important to be physically active, and these sessions provide fun opportunities for being active,” Johnson said.
No experience is needed to join these programs. Johnson said that these sessions are “designed for beginners, with an instruction given throughout. They are also designed for all fitness levels so you can adjust your weight, speed, or resistance to higher or lower depending on your fitness level.”
A Mount ID and appropriate workout gear is the only thing you need to bring with you.
Tarina Nixon, or T, will host a boot camp Tuesdays from 5:10pm-6:00pm at the tennis/basketball courts. Boot camp will incorporate strength training for “toning and building muscle, cardio, [and] high-intensity interval training (HIIT),” Nixon said. It will also include “conditioning and fat burning, core work, balance, general fitness knowledge and fun.”
Additionally, Sports & Wellness will also offer Zumba on Mondays from 3:00pm-3:50pm, Cycling on Wednesdays from 3:00pm-3:50pm, and Yoga on Thursdays from 5:10pm-6:00pm.
“I have done a session with all of the instructors and they are amazing!” stated T.
These programs are for everyone in the Mount community. Even if you’re not the quickest runner or the strongest lifter, there is an open spot for you in one of these various programs.
