The Comeback Kids

Written by Liz Charre, Staff Writer

Last night wrapped up an incredible MLB season with the Kansas City Royals as your 2015 World Series Champs. With emotions surrounding the big apple, it was all smiles for the Royals as they won their first World Series in 30 years. Everyone knows the Kansas City Royals as, “the comeback kids” because they have been able to produce runs in key situations.

They have come from behind eight times of 11 postseason games. In the ALDS, facing elimination against the Astros, they were able to score over five runs in the 8th inning to go back to Kansas City and move on to play the Blue Jays. As the Royals defeated the Blue Jays, they were back in the World Series for their second consecutive year. Jumping to a 2-0 lead, the Royals headed toward the big apple to see if they would be able to finish off the season and sure enough they did. They dropped the first game but came back strong Saturday and Sunday to defeat the Mets and received their second World Series trophy in franchise history.

Both games on Saturday and Sunday were comeback games. They entered later in the innings when suddenly the bats came to life and gave them the win. On Sunday, the Royals were down to their final three out when simple mistakes made by the infield allowed them to score two runs to tie the game. The game continued into extra innings and that is when it all broke open. The Royals scored five runs in the twelfth to give them a comfortable 7-2 lead, titling them 2015 World Series champs. Fans in Kansas City are still going crazy.

After tough consideration, the World Series MVP went to Royals catcher Salvador Perez, who had several key hits during the later innings that allowed the Royals to win the World Series. He received a brand new Chevrolet Camaro as well as the MVP trophy. Now all the Royals can do is celebrate because, after a tough loss last year to the Giants, they came back out this year triumphant as ever and are going home with the biggest prize, a World Series championship.
