As a women’s college, it is important that we understand the challenges women have faced to be where we are today. Who knew that as a gender we would go from fighting for the right to vote, to running for president.
In my series, I will be covering the historical aspects of women’s issues and tying them to topics relevant today. Although women face discrimination, inequality, and a number of obstacles throughout the world, we should understand that these issues effect men as well.
With the number of presidential candidates running this year, it is hard to keep up with who supports women’s rights and what that even means. Affordable healthcare, sex education, equal pay and sexual assault are some of the issues our future president must address. Therefore, this series will be an easy way for you to see who is tackling these issues and any conversations sparked up about women’s rights.
We may live in the 21st century, yet we must continue to voice our needs to ensure we live in an equal world. The only way to do that is to educate ourselves and vote. In this video, Kendall Jenner gives a compelling speech about the history of what it took for women to gain the right to vote. Take a moment to learn about the suffragettes and what they did to fight for our rights.
