Dreams do come true when you wish upon a star. The 2014 Disney-themed Charity Ball at Mount St. Mary’s College helped raise over $3,500 for United Friends of the Children (UFC), a nonprofit organization that serves current and former foster youth in Los Angeles County to continue their care and support.

The Italian food, donations, and classic, elegant attire, were not the only visible things on the evening. Every attendee’s energy and support were just as noticeable. The MC’s began the event with a warm welcoming and then introduced Ian Ryen, the Corporate and Foundation Relations Manager of UFC. He briefly spoke about the organization and finished off on a thank you note.

“Thank you so much for having us. We are really appreciative of all that you’ve done and all of the money you’ve raised for this amazing cause,” Ryen said.

Throughout the event, Ryen shared more information with those interested in learning more, becoming a volunteer or donor. Carolina Diaz, Outreach and Recruitment Coordinator, and Anika Fernandez, Manager of College Readiness Program at UFC, partook in informing and supporting the event along with Ryen.

The evening continued as the guests began to bid for items donated by clubs and organizations on campus and anonymous donors. The items ranged from essential student necessities, such as school supply baskets, to entertainment goodies with movie tickets, Disneyland passes, and fun accessories. The winners were announced and claimed their gifts by the end of the event. The guests celebrated when it was announced that over $3,500 were raised to benefit UFC.

President of the Student Activities Council, Bianca Silva, was proud of every one who came to support. She believes it is important to “unite for a good cause with UFC because it opens doors to the bright future that the youth has and have been able to with scholarships here at MSMC. It’s rewarding to give back.”
